IKEA ÅRGÅNG Collection – Mid Century Modern

I went on one of those internet searching sprees I sometimes go on last week. 

I got it in my head I wanted to replace one of the lounge chairs that looks like it belongs more in an office, than a living space.  So, rather than going for a knock off ‘Design Classic’ I was looking for refurbished Mid Century Modern Scandi design… but it turns out this is pricey!! 

You know something that looks like this… $999.00!! 


So I thought last resort… Lets try IKEA… sigh…

Imagine my surprise when it turns out IKEA have a collection called ÅRGÅNG which is a limited edition collection of some of IKEA’s greatest hits from the last century… 

Furthermore, their Ekenaset chair is exactly what I was looking for! Something understated to go with the knock off Eames Lounge (showy)  and the (on order) Gplan Vintage 67 sofa.

In the same ‘greatest hits’ collection IKEA have re-launched their very first flatpack table. The 1956 Lövet table has been renamed Lovbacken, and it’s perfect for my retro modern living room!

35mm film 1 Westward Ho!

I took a 2nd camera to Hestward Ho! earlier this year, an Olympus OM-1n 35mm SLR which was kindly donated to me.  


I wanted to get away from the digital pictures that I’ve been taking for the last ten years.  I’ve been wanting to take B/W film stills since my Nikon FM2 35mm SLR was stolen from my student digs back in 2001.


This film was by no means perfect, but I think this is the beauty of it.  The film is actually quite grainy because I think forgot to set the ISO on the camera correctly.  A lesson learned! But this said there are a few images that I think came out well.

OneHouse Designs ARBD001 (Alternative Estate Town House)

OneHouse is a Town House scheme I’ve been working on for a little bit. I’ve finally got some plans drawn out on Vectorworks and will look to produce some 3D visuals soon.
The design aims to create a three bedroom house with additional study area based on a contemporary vernacular, with the aim of increasing the quality of standard ‘Wimpey Homes’ estates.

These drawings are a work in progress…

So I Had this Idea Right!

I was thinking that there must be a hell of a lot of unemployed or dissatisfied Architectural Designers and Architecture Graduates out there at the moment, wanting to earn some pocket money doing drawings or planning applications for friends and family.
So my idea was to start a network which brings together the skills of this talent pool, offering a service that fits in between getting a builder to design your extension, and employing an expensive Architects practice. Using our best assets, design talent and being inexpensive, the network would offer design, visualization, and planning application services for private and small commercial projects.
Initially I would build up a small portfolio of friends ‘n family projects then launch a website. I’ve initially registered www.independentplans.co.uk
